Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro C-Band 5G support enabled on Android 12L Beta 3

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (published February 10, 2022) follows:

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are some of the best devices money can buy right now. Featuring Google’s in-house developed Tensor SoC, both devices come with Android 12 out of the box.

Despite the eye-catching hardware, the software experience has not been so good for the users. Some have reported multiple Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and mobile network connectivity issues over the past few weeks.

That said, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also support 5G C-band, a technology that bridges the gap between sub6 networks and mmWave technology.

It aims to deliver faster speeds than LTE and sub6 without requiring the expensive hardware that the majority of phones need to connect. But a few days ago, Verizon said none of these devices are currently “fully certified” and therefore cannot use C-band at this time.

The technology offers users faster download speeds and was only available on the Samsung S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 until now.

Turns out Verizon C-Band 5G is now enabled for users running Android 12L Beta 3 on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

While some say users will need to install Android 12L Beta 3 for the band to be enabled, others say flashing the radio firmware from the 12L image does the trick and they don’t need to register for the beta version.

FYI: If your phone is OTA unlocked, you can only flash the radio image of 12L and you don’t have to register for the beta.

This implies that the only thing stopping Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners from using Verizon’s 5G C-band was the software. If we look at Verizon’s official statement to The Verge, the network operator said that the Pixel 6 series will soon get C-band support.

However, they didn’t share any timeline on when it will be enabled for those running the stable version of Android 12.

Still, we’ll be keeping an eye out and updating this space if and when Verizon officially enables 5G C-band on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, so be sure to stay tuned.
