2022 USA Greco Pan-Am Training Camp List and Schedule

Thursday (tomorrow) initially hosts the Pan American Championships training camp for the United States Greco-Roman team. According to Tuesday’s report said there has been turmoil for the United States with the military removing their athletes from the roster. Three Army/WCAP Wrestlers – Max Nowry (55 kg, #9 worldwide, 5 p.m. #1), Robert Dalton (60 kg, #20 worldwide, 5 p.m. #1), and Alex Sancho (67 kg, world No. 17, 17 hn No. 2) – won the 2022 Bill Farrell Memorial last week, which gave everyone the opportunity to compete in the Pan-Ams next month in Acalpulco, Mexico. The replacement of the trio, in weight class order, is Brady Koontz (TMWC/Ohio RTC), Randon Miranda (Rise RTC), and Hayden Tuma (supplements).
Although they cannot qualify for the Continental Championships, Nowry, Roberts and Sancho are still expected to attend this final five-day training camp. Miranda and Tuma are, of course, also on board; Koontz cannot travel to Colorado Springs due to college commitments. Another member of the Pan American team will also not be present this week, Rich Carlson (87kg, Minnesota Storm, 5:00 p.m. #3 at 82kg), who won the Farrell on Friday with a dramatic bodylock against the reigning World Teamer Alan Vera (NYAC, 5 p.m. #2).
At press time, 43 athletes are expected to attend the camp. The most populated weight range would be 67 to 77 kilograms. 67 lists six competitors while 72 and 77 have eight each. The 55 and 63 kilograms feature just three wrestlers each, and Vera is currently the sole occupant at 87.
However, the number of wrestlers matching their respective weight classes is not an important issue for the US program during the camp. Athletes regularly find themselves with lighter or heavier partners. Rather, the key element of this camp, as well as several previous iterations, is the efficiency with which the workouts are executed. Everything is timed specifically to maximize performance and recovery. To that end, Day 3 of camp (Saturday) is intended to provide a period of active rest for participants before resuming intensity for the final two days of camp (Sunday and Monday).
